Ok, so I know I just posted three posts yesterday, but this is really exciting to me (I am SO resigned to the fact that I'm a complete and hopeless DORK!).
We went and toured the castle in Old Town here in Olsztyn today. It was AMAZING! I fully intend to make many more trips to see it even more. It was built in the late 14th century...I mean, they were celebrating the 400th anniversary of this place when America was being founded! That just blows my mind. And how about Olsztyn being called one of the "youngest Warmian towns, its charter dating back to 1353". Whatever.
Anyhoo...this is the castle where Nicholas Copernicus lived for a few years while he was working on his heliocentric theory. There's actually a portion of the wall that still has his charts engraved on it. The actual charts that Copernicus himself worked on. This just blows my mind. If you're as big a dork as I am and are interested in more information, you can go here.
Just wanted to share this with you. By the way, it's definitely winter here. It's a-snowin' and a-blowin'! And, just a bit of random info, parents definitely pull their kids around on sleds here. Not just for fun, but it's really what they do to get from place to place. I love it!

Hi! Keep sending pictures and thanks for the new site. History and geography are much more interesting when you know someone in the midst of it :) Like your mom,I have yahooed some Olsztyn sites and found pictures, tourist info, and motel sites. Nan, have you checked out the Olsztyn motels yet? I hadn't realized how large and populated Olsztyn is.Sorry to hear about your "bus door in the face" and hope that is a one-time experience. love & prayers - Aunt Barb Hi to Amber.
Jessica,
Aunt Norma forwarded your email and I signed onto your blog...just spent the last 30 minutes reading all of your blogs and pictures. They are great! This all sounds and looks alot more exciting than what I imagined.
What's up with the rent lady and why would that be "that's how it is in Poland"? How impoverished (I think that's a word) are these people? Have you moved yet?
I will be with all the kids today. They are having a birthday party for me at Adam and Amber's today...guess what's on the menu? Pizza! Anyway, I will let everyone know about the blog...expect alot more traffic!
Love and prayers,
Aunt Gail
Your stories are very entertaining, as well as informative! Love it! The bus door in the face was definiely a bummer...but here's how we think of stuff like that at work: if your life was a reality show, that moment would have definitely made it into an episode, probably even a preview clip! Keep the blogs coming!
And keep warm!! It sounds almost as cold as OHIO there. :)
Hi! I never commented on the last blog, but wanted to say if every man in Poland looks like the random man in the background at the bus stop I think I would stay forever!
