At Least There Are No Wigs in This Movie

...oh, yes, it does get better. This is quite possibly one of my favorite movies. It's the Indian Bollywood version of Pride and Prejudice. It's full of beautiful clothes, beautiful people, and great songs and dancing. The best part is the scene on the beach which includes a full gospel choir, dancing lifegaurds, and singing surfers. How great is that. Sadly, I'd seen Bride and Prejudice before Pride and Prejudice, so I found myself watching P&P thinking "hey! That's just like on Bride and Prejudice!" The storyline is basically the same, but this movie focuses more on the sinister Mr. Wickham and his relationship with both Lalita (this version's Lizzy) and her younger sister Lakhi.
Like I said, the music is great (you can listen here); the dancing is fun; the clothes are beautiful; and there are parts that are hillarious. But, you definitely have to be ready for major cheese. I have to admit...while I was watching it, I was briefly reminded of a little known, late 80's hit movie (at least in the Lehman household) known around the world by one little word...Shag. Good times.

Thanks for the movie review! You have captured my interest with the "singing and dancing on the beach" reference. I will have to see this movie :), and you may want to dig deep into the movie archives to see some real classics, like "Beach Blanket Bingo", 1965. Aunt Barb

I am collecting a list of "must see" movies for when I am alone (can't see Uncle Bill watching B&P or P&P, however he has watched Princess Bride several times lately). Didn't have much to say but now that I CAN comment, I had to. Aunt Jenni

I've seen it (as Jessica knows) & can attest to the entertainment value. In the same vain, I just finished reading a very enjoyable book called Jane Austin in Scarsdale or Love,Death, and the SATs by Paula Cohen. A high school guidance counselor gave up her soul mate b/c her family didn't think he was worthy. Very amusing telling how desperate the parents were to get their kids into the right colleges.

Don't forget "Clueless", too!

Yeah..."hit" movie is a very loose term to be used in our childhood home. Basically, if it was a hit with us, no one else saw it. (Mr. Boogedy, Twirl, Return to Oz...no one has really seen these!)
I haven't seen either B&P or P&P, nor have I read the book, and basically don't know the story...unless that Mr. Darcy is on the same lines of the Mr. Darcy in Briget Jones' Diary? Then in that case, I kind of know the story. But I'm doubting that's the same character.
Jenni- a good must see chick flick that I always watch when it's on is Picture Perfect. I have to stop and watch it every time it's on TV!!

I have a book for you that I found recently at the Library. It is called "Unlocking the Meaning of 'Lost'. An unauthorized guide" by Lynnette Porter & David Lavery. It has tons of info on the show including a glossary of words, character sketches, and character connections (really fun to see who met who in what scene). Also I am bummed right now because it is 2 hours to the LOST first episode and our cable has been out all afternoon. Only thing good is it is to be a recap of the last two seasons and who people are and their backgrounds so maybe it won't be earthshattering to miss it. Aunt Jenni
